Our history

The Peace Caucus was founded in 1986 to educate and engage the influential voice of public health professionals in efforts to promote peace. Through outreach and educational activities, we strive to illuminate that peace and social justice are key determinants of the health of populations across the globe. Learn more about our history in this powerpoint:

Why do we need you?

Public health professionals possess the skills needed to identify and disseminate information about the impacts of global militarism on the health of the planet. Your participation in Peace Caucus activities can ensure the connection between peace and health is a vibrant part of the APHA, public health education and policy-making.

How can you get involved?

Come to Peace Caucus sponsored scientific sessions and to our business meeting at the APHA annual meeting. Propose and contribute to collaborative research and advocacy projects. Look for us at the exhibition hall at the annual meeting. Contact the Peace Caucus at peacecaucusapha@gmail.com to discuss ideas and opportunities with our current leadership team. Past and ongoing contributions include:

• APHA session planning • Policy statements • Newsletter content • Social media • Website • Fundraising • Collaborative research • Op-eds • Curriculum development • Demonstrations • Film festivals • Photography exhibitions • Cycling for peace
